Drought 2012

The summer of 2012 was a very hot summer. It was a summer of droughts in some areas and serve weather in others. When we didn't have a winter in 2011 that is what really caused this drought.

The growing of crops was extremely poor and has been since 1995. Many of the farmer’s crops had died and they lost a lot of money because they couldn't sell their crops to people. Many states in the United States have had floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes where they lost everything.
Greg  Botellho shares some of the things that would happen during a drought. He says  "The combination of dry conditions and extreme heat,  including hundreds of record-breaking temperatures this summer, It  has been unbearable for many. The drought's impact has been seen in ways big and small, from leaves falling early and lawns turning brown to farmers giving up and lakes drying up, exposing hundreds of dead fish."
Droughts can cause damage to the economy because they make the food prices and other prices go up. Many people have died from dust pneumonia and other really bad illnesses. Farmer’s incomes have dropped a lot because their crops wouldn't grow. Many of the ranchers had to sell their cattle because it was costing them more to feed them then to have them.

All About Farming :)

What is farming? Farming is growing your own crops and raising livestock. Having a farm is very difficult because you have to put in a lot of time and a lot of work. When starting a farm, you need about 1/8 of an acre. When raising chickens or cows you want to raise them in warm months only and on a big pasture. Farmers have to work very long hours.

Farmers take care of their animals by feeding them and giving them plenty of water. They harvest crops and need to take care of the machines they use on the farms like tractors, and plows. Farmers don't get holidays off. They work all day long every day. The families of the farmers need to help the farmer with the farms. Farmers have to plow the soil, plant the seeds, care for the plants, and care for the animals too.

Today farmers have to have knowledge, education, and business skills to run a farm. “We used to be a nation of farmers, but now it is less than two percent of farmers in the United States. So a lot of people don't know a lot about what it takes to grow our own food" - Judith Redmond.

When harvest season is over, farmers start to plan for next years harvest season. There is about eighty percent of farmers who are self employed and most of them grow crops. Farmers grow their own crops but they sale them to other people to make more money. Farming has been around for a long time.

Back then that is how most people survived. Now a days people go to the grocery store to buy their food instead of growing in on a farm.I hope you have learned something about farms by reading my blog.

Country Life VS City Life

What's the difference between city life and country life? There is a lot of things that you can do in the country but not in the city. There are less people and traffic in the country, than in the city. I wouldn't want to live in the city because there is too many people. In the country you barely have any neighbors beside you.

I have lived in the country most of my life, so I wouldn't know anything about the city. There are big buildings and apartments with no yards in the city. While in the country there are small buildings and houses with big yards.

I really don't understand why people say they don't like the country life. There is so many things to do like go fishing, hunting, and muddin after a good rain. People get down and get dirty in the country, while people in the city are afraid of a little dirt. The country has farms, the city doesn't. I think that it is good for people to know how hard country people work in their farms and where our produce food comes from.

I thought that this was a good topic to write about because there is so many different things about the city and the country life that people don't know about. Don't judge the country life or the city life but what  you hear because what you hear isn't always what it seems.
