What is farming? Farming is growing your own crops and raising livestock. Having a farm is very difficult because you have to put in a lot of time and a lot of work. When starting a farm, you need about 1/8 of an acre. When raising chickens or cows you want to raise them in warm months only and on a big pasture. Farmers have to work very long hours.

Farmers take care of their animals by feeding them and giving them plenty of water. They harvest crops and need to take care of the machines they use on the farms like tractors, and plows. Farmers don't get holidays off. They work all day long every day. The families of the farmers need to help the farmer with the farms. Farmers have to plow the soil, plant the seeds, care for the plants, and care for the animals too.

Today farmers have to have knowledge, education, and business skills to run a farm. “We used to be a nation of farmers, but now it is less than two percent of farmers in the United States. So a lot of people don't know a lot about what it takes to grow our own food" - Judith Redmond.

When harvest season is over, farmers start to plan for next years harvest season. There is about eighty percent of farmers who are self employed and most of them grow crops. Farmers grow their own crops but they sale them to other people to make more money. Farming has been around for a long time.

Back then that is how most people survived. Now a days people go to the grocery store to buy their food instead of growing in on a farm.I hope you have learned something about farms by reading my blog.
